You failed to mention that the game gives a rotating preference to Level up bonuses. Similar to how you said you rotate, but you can see specifically higher bonuses for one of the 3 types. It really helps to get the most out of the bonuses like this.

Some enemies always drop power-ups, so knowing which enemies do is really helpful. Also keep in mind that the last enemy you kill never drops one. And also if you kill a group of enemies (with an FP attack), you won’t get any either.

i upgrade in a pattern too. i first started with power at level 2, then hp at level 3, then special at level 4 and so on. with this pattern, i know what my next power up is going to be

OK, check this out: I died TWICE on the Hammer Bro because I didn’t know how to guard correctly…I was bashing myself, saying “Wooow Viv, nice moves…XP”

i started again. (underleveled on my previous one) and fought everyone. slept at mario’s pad to restore health instead of using mushrooms.and i learned fire orb before the hammer bros. i guess when i reach croco mallow should learn something too!
